An engagement session in Portofino is something that all couples should have before the wedding. This is because Portofino, a lovely seaside village of Liguria, is a small and exclusive Italy in miniature, and it contains all the main features that make this country so loved in the world. The small harbour, the colourful little houses that surround the famous Piazzetta, with the exclusive boutiques that overlook the tables of the outdoor cafes. It is a pleasure to shoot in this marvel. That’s why, when I had the opportunity to shoot an engagement session in Portofino, I didn’t think twice.
These American lovebirds flew across the ocean for short a holiday in Italy. After a few emails, I met them directly on the day of the photoshoot. The first part took place in Santa Margherita Ligure, a pretty seaside village 5-minutes drive from Portofino. Here stands the beautiful Villa Durazzo, surrounded by a lovely park where light filters gently through the trees. The perfect setting for some portraits. The second part, between the Piazzetta and the Brown Castle, the undisputed king of the most beautiful view of the bay.
It was a pleasure to photograph these lovebirds, a bit shy at first, but then they gradually loosened up. It’s not easy to be on the other side of the camera, so I asked them to be spontaneous. I told them to walk hand in hand while chatting, and then stop to capture some more intense portraits. I directed them gently, to give them real, organic pictures of a meaningful moment in their lives. If you are in love with Italy and can’t wait to have your portrait taken with the person you love, the engagement session in Portofino is what you need.
