I knew just a few things about this couple before meeting them in person. But what I knew was enough to have high expectations. During a Facetime call a few months before, I had noticed with great pleasure that she was a cute girl, with big eyes and a wonderful appeal. He was a tall guy, super easy and friendly, with a terrific personality. They would get married a few days later, so the engagement session was essential to create a good feeling between them and me. No need to force it; at the first Ciao I realised that would be a great afternoon, and so it was!
Tuscany provides tens, hundreds of magnificent spots on where to be portrayed, to bring back home awesome photos. Having an engagement session in Tuscany is an experience everyone should have. At least, once in a life. The lush countryside returns all its beauty, with portraits that look suspended over time and a palette of whimsical colours. We spent a few hours strolling through the hills around Certaldo, in a lovely part of Tuscany. The sun filtering through the clouds kept us company for most of the afternoon. It was fantastic to shoot these two lovers while they chatted and laughed among the cypress trees and the countryside burned by the summer heat.
The engagement session is often an opportunity to get to know people better, away from the hectic timing of the wedding. I discovered two friendly people, with whom I would spend evenings with a glass of wine in hand. They have that Joie de vivre that their country, California, often gives to its residents. I meet them again a few days later for their wedding in Florence, and I had a great time shooting them again. These things come in threes. See you in Malibu for a drink?
